Position Summary
PK Sound builds robotic audio systems used on stages around the world, designed and manufactured in Calgary. Our finance team is small and hands-on, and we are hiring an in-office Accountant to take ownership of the company’s day-to-day accounting – payroll, the month-end close, receivables, payables, and cash.
You will report to the Director of Finance and work closely with employees, vendors, and other departments. This role owns payroll, keeps the monthly close on schedule, and keeps the company’s records accurate and organized, with room to grow toward junior-controller scope over time. Salary range: $75,000 – $85,000, commensurate with experience.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Payroll: Own semi-monthly payroll in RISE end to end – collect and review employee timesheets, process pay runs, manage changes and onboarding, remit source deductions, issue ROEs, and maintain payroll records.
- Month-End & Reporting: Run the monthly close in Odoo – prepare journal entries, reconcile accounts, maintain organized working papers, deliver a reliable close each month, and complete the monthly Statistics Canada survey.
- Accounts Receivable: Issue customer invoices, apply payments and deposits in Odoo, investigate unapplied, partial, or duplicated payments, and follow up on collections with the right finance or sales contact.
- Accounts Payable: Enter and post vendor bills, match invoices to purchase orders, pricing, currency, and tax treatment, prepare the weekly aged payables listing and approved payment runs, send remittance advice, and reconcile vendor statements to Odoo.
- Cards, Expenses & Cash: Process multi-currency card and expense activity (Float and other cards), match and chase receipts, process reimbursements, reconcile card accounts, and monitor daily cash.
- PK Sound UK: Handle day-to-day accounting for PK Sound UK, our United Kingdom entity, working with its external accountants.
- Analysis: Support budgeting, forecasting, and ad hoc analysis with the Director of Finance.
- Our Space: Help keep the office spaces organized and presentable and manage relationships with our office and facility vendors – a light, shared responsibility with the rest of the team.
Skills & Experience
- 3 to 5 years of full-cycle accounting experience, ideally in a small or mid-sized company where you owned the books end to end.
- Hands-on payroll experience and the confidence to run it independently; RISE experience is an asset.
- Experience with ERP systems and strong Excel skills; Odoo and multi-currency experience are assets.
- Strong attention to detail and the instinct to investigate discrepancies rather than simply process transactions.
- Organized and dependable, with the ability to manage recurring deadlines and competing priorities.
- Comfortable with vendors and employees, and discreet with confidential information.
- Post-secondary education in accounting; CPA or CPA-track is an asset, not a requirement.
- Able to work in the Calgary office full time.
